Kent, was born in Franklin Township, Portage Co., Ohio, April 10, 1824, and is a son of Christian and Theresa (Nighman) Cackler. His paternal grandfather, a native of Pennsylvania, settled in Hudson, Ohio, in 1804, and his maternal grandfather, Adam Nighman, a native of Maryland, settled in Franklin Township, this county in 1809. Our subject was reared in Franklin Township, where he received a limited education in the common schools. He was married February 11, 1847, to Mary J., daughter of Oliver and Mary (Jerrils) Crosby, of Shalersville, who settled there about 1825, and were from New York. Her maternal grandfather was John Jerrils, a soldier of the Revolutionary war. Mr. Cackler and wife are members of the Disciples Church of Kent. In politics he is a Democrat.
