He was born in Muskingum county, Ohio, in 1838. His parents are David C. and Ann Maria Philips. Solomon Philips was married in Washington county, Ohio, in 1852, to Elizabeth, daughter of Conrad and Elizabeth Shaffer. She is a native of Germany. Their children are: Mary E., Melissa, William, and George. Mr. Philips is engaged in farming in Mason township. His postoffice address is Greasy Ridge, Lawrence county, Ohio.
