BUCHANAN – commenced the boot and shoe business at what is known as the Opera House in 1877, and subsequently removed to his present location, 157 Third street, opposite postoffice, in 1881. He built the buildings he now occupies at a cost of $5,000. The value of the property has since increased one-half, and the location is one of the most desirable in the city. He usually carries stock value at from $10,000 to $15,000. He has a very extensive jobbing trade. Mr. Buchanan was married at St. Charles, Kane county, Illinois, 1879, to Emma Collins, who was born in Kane county. Her parents, John and Samantha Jane Collins, still reside there. Mr. Buchanan was born in the city of Ironton, and his parents, George Francis and Elvira (Gholson) Buchanan, still reside in Ironton. He was born 1854.
