Motschman, Sr. The Shultz Family of Darke County, Ohio The Biography of REBECCA SHULTZ Daughter of George Jacob Shultz & Elizabeth Creager by Francis D. Motschman, Sr On Thu., February 5, 1846, Rebecca Shultz walked down the isle of Matrimony with Robert Hunter, an older neighbor and friend with whom she had become quite attached. She was 24, being born on Sun., September 22, 1822. He was 37, and was born on Sun., January 3, 1809 and was the youngest of the eight children of William and Mary Hunter. They were happy in their marriage but he was ill, much more so than was suspected and he died less than a year later on Thu., October 14, 1847. Rebecca was devastated to have lost her husband so soon and especially since she had just found out that she was with child. The baby was born after Robert's death, on Fri., April 4, 1848. Rebecca named her Mary Elizabeth Hunter. Robert was buried in the Earhart Cemetery located South of Ansonia, Ohio on SR118. Six years later Rebecca was taken by a young man who was two years her junior. His name was David Hartle the son of Jacob Hartle and Catherine Spade. He was smittened by Rebecca, also and he got along first rate with little Mary Elizabeth. He was born in 1824. David and Rebecca were lovers and their union was blessed on Thu., June 3, 1852 just four days after the birth of their first child, Franklin Pearce, on Sun., May 30, 1852. This was scandalous in this time and they probably took a few jabs from some righteous acquaintances. Putting their past behind them they proceded to have four more children: m. Oran C. born Wed., June 6, 1855 m. Fremont Dayton born Thu., May 8, 1856 m. David O. born in 1859 and f. Calla Bell "Callie" born in July, 1863 David died in 1904 and Rebecca died on Sun., Jan. 22, 1899, both were buried in the Beamsville Cemetery, Richland Twp., Darke County, Ohio.
