 The Biography of  Laura Belle Shultz

Daughter of George Washington Shultz and Sarah Marie Hunter

	If the big burly George Washington Shultz was disappointed that his 

first born was a girl instead of a boy, you would never know it. He melted 

inside when he saw this fragile little baby and knew it was his job to take 

care of her and protect her. He was ready, able and willing to do whatever he 

had to do for this sweet little girl.  She came as a Christmas gift on Tue., 

December 25, 1860. After discussing it they decided on the name Laura Belle.



	Laura was George's pet... she could do no wrong in his eyes which only 

made up in a small way for all the hassles she had at school. over her dad. 

Knowing that it was a sure way to rile her up, they would often let her hear 

them call George a bully. When she heard that she would scream out, "My dad is 

Not a bully", and then she would light into them. She could never let her 

father know what was going on at school because he would probably go to the 

school and complain about the treatment she was getting. She would loose face 

if this happened... so it never happened.



	When she was eighteen years old she married a  twenty-nine year old man 

by the name of James Wesley McCullough. The wedding was on Sun., January 12, 

1879. He was born on Sat., September 22, 1849 near Hagerstown, Maryland. He was 

the oldest of four children just as Laura was.



	Laura and James had five children and were married 52 years when 

suffering from some unknown problems he committed suicide by hanging on Tue., 

January 27, 1931. He did this at 410 N. Broadway, Greenville, Ohio.

Laura Belle died a natural death on Thu., August 30, 1945.



	The children resulting from their marriage are:

1.  Earl McCullough b. 1879 in Darke County, Ohio  d. Mon., August 10, 1896	

		

2.  Sadie McCullough b. Fri., May 12, 1882 in Greenville Twp., Darke County, 

Ohio  d. Thu., January 20, 1966 in Darke County, Ohio.

3.  Lucille McCullough b. Thu., December 8, 1892 in Greenville Twp., Darke 

County, Ohio  m. Walter Mider

4.  James Roy McCullough b. Sat., May 21, 1898 in Greenville Twp., Darke 

County, Ohio  d. Sun., June 30, 1968  he married Edna Joan Compton b. Abt. 

1901  d. Sat., November 1, 1968.
