Motschman, Sr. The Shultz Family of Darke County, Ohio The Biography of Jacob Shultz Son of George Jacob Shultz and Elizabeth Creager by Francis D. Motschman, Sr. Jacob Shultz was named after his uncle shortly after he was born on Sun., May 6, 1827 in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He emigrated to Ohio with his parents when he was about 13 years old. He first went to live at the home of his Aunt and Uncle near Blue Ball in Warren County, Ohio and then when he was about 19 years old he and his family moved to Darke County. This is where they settled. They lived on a forty acre farm near Ansonia on what is now called Beans Road. When he was 26 years old and after sparking a number of young girls he fell in love with a lovely young lady by the name of Mary Lecklider. He asked her father, George Lecklider for her hand in marriage and was accepted by her family including her Mother, Sarah Adar. Their marriage was performed on Thu., September 1, 1853. It would be four years before their first child was born. It was a girl and she was born in 1857, in Darke County, Ohio. She was named Anna E. Shultz. Children did not come readily to them as it would be another eight years before they were blessed with another. This time the baby was a boy, born on Wed., May 31, 1865. He was given the name of Thomas D. Shultz and he would start another line of Shultz's there in Darke County. Jacob died on Wed., June 26, 1895. His home at this time was in Greenville Twp., Darke County, Ohio and he was buried in Earhart Cemetery, SR118 n. of Greenville, Darke Co., Ohio.
