Under a bio for MATHER is the following paragraph:

                 The marriage of Samuel Holmes Mather to Miss Gregory in
1842 united two famous lines of American ancestry. He was a descendant
of the Rev. Richard Mather, and related to the celebrated Increase and 
Cotton Mather. His bride was the daughter of Dr. W.M. Gregory of
Albany, N.Y., and her mother was Lucretia - Ely - Gregory, member of the famous
Massachusetts family of that name.
